For those new to Ashtanga Yoga class
New words
- Mysore Class : Students are taught to do the asanas on a one-on-one basis, hence they can practice at their own paces, with guidance and assistance from the teacher when necessary. Students have flexibility to come at any time, but will be finishing their practice by 10:30am .
- Led Class : The teacher will lead the class in practicing poses in a flow, thus ensuring the continuity of the poses. Students will have to be ready for the class at the exact time in order to follow the flow.
- Moon Days : The moon exerts a gravitational pull on the earth that causes the tides. This force also affects us as we are about 70% water. The relative positions of the moon create different energetic experiences. The full moon energy is an upward moving force that makes us feel energetic and emotional, but not well grounded. During the full moon we tend to be more headstrong. The new moon energy is a downward moving force that makes us feel calm and grounded, but heavy and sluggish.
In the Ashtanga Yoga tradition, both full and new moon days are observed as yoga holidays.
Please check with your physician and let your teacher know prior to class if you have any form of injury or serious illness, or if you are pregnant or have recently had a baby.
It's best to practice on empty stomach. If you eat before class, allow 2-3 hours before practicing.
Wear comfortable stretchy clothes.
Our Studio provides Yoga mats for students to use. However, you are welcome to bring your own (sticky) mat. We also provide space to store your mat at the studio.
Please keep the noise at the minimum level and cell phone is discouraged to bring in the practice room.
Drink plenty of water AFTER class.
Ashtanga yoga students are constantly warned against pushing their own physical limits by competing with others, as yoga is not a sport, but a practice to improve both the body and mind.
